Mecca Bingo Background And History

Mecca Bingo in All Saints Green closed leaving only one remaining bingo hall in the area. At the time of writing there were shuttle buses being put on to transport players to the Aylsham Road site, many of who were saddened at the closure of the club.

Having originally opened in 1932 as a cinema, films were shown until 1973 when bingo took over. An old building, structural problems have been identified, and the predicted costs for repair have been cited as the main reason for closing the club.

Not only was the closure going to be a loss for it’s twenty seven employees, but also for the many players who had been attending for years, and relied on the club as a social network, not just a bit of bingo fun.

Date Of Club Closure: April 2011
