Top Ten / Apollo Bingo Background And History

Like many bingo halls, the Blackpool Apollo / Top Ten was originally a cinema. The Palladium initially showed silent films accompanied by an orchestra. It opened in 1928, and had stalls, and a balcony.

The cinema closed in 1976, and luckily its transformation into a bingo hall did not entail covering up of the original features which included ornate plastering.

The club closed in 2009, a bad time for bingo halls which saw many closures due to the smoking ban and the general state of the economy. Much local consternation arose via the press as many bingo players saw the lack of governmental support as a showing ignorance of the cultural significance of bingo clubs.

If you have any further information on the closure of this club and its prior history, and would like to share it with us and our site visitors, please contact us here.

Date Of Club Closure: 5th September 2009
