In recent news, Microgaming has announced the closure of its bingo vertical. A number of sites using the software will be finding an alternative platform to run on in coming months, following the news. The likes of 32Red, Butlers Bingo and Rosy Bingo will be affected by the move. The closure date is not yet set, but expect to see changes in the near future.
It’s not surprising really, Microgaming Bingo has never been a favourite around these parts, and has failed to gain much traction outside a number of smaller sites that have stuck with the platform. This follows the closure of their Poker network which was announced last yar. The company are focusing exclusively on their casino related slots and games. That’s no surprise really, they’ve always been better known for that side of the business than their bingo.
We will have to see where the affected operators will go. Micorgaming says it will be doing its utmost to support them through the transitions, although I’m yet to see any firm dates on when this network will close.
There’s been a lot of consolidation in the online bingo world the last couple of years with networks like Cozy, Dragonfish and Jumpman shuttering smaller and less profitable network skins. This news is inline with these changes and not completely unexpected. It will be interesting to see who these sites change too, as the wrong choice could potentially be catastrophic.
