Playing bingo with a friend and promising to share the winnings has fuelled many a news story, and not all of them positive, but this month it was good news for one lucky bingo playing lady and her friend as they shared a monster jackpot worth almost £100,000!
The two friends, who have chosen to remain anonymous were playing bingo together in the Globe Bingo Hall in Donnington when one of them one £92,000, as always promised between the pair, the win was shared and this week the players collected their win, presented to them by Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden.
The winning pair were presented with a cheque each and a bouquet at the hall by Matthew Wolfenden who plays David Metcalfe in the soap. The player with the winning ticket doesn’t watch the soap but her friend does and she was ecstatic to meet the actor in the flesh.
Both winners are now thinking a holiday is in order and who can blame them, they both also cited home improvements as high on the list of spends with their share. The lucky pair got much more than they bargained for though as they also won a luxury cruise for two for being one of the first winners on the new National Bingo Game, giving them both plenty to celebrate!
The manager of the bingo halls showed his pleasure at the winner and was also cited as mentioning the recent tax break as assurance that their bingo hall would be around for a long time to come. The hall intend on investing in the building and hope the new tax cut will mean many more winners to come for the hall.
Matthew Wolfenden stuck around for the evening, calling a game and even giving out autographs. Some players at the hall had never played land bingo before, but they may be back after heading down for a game and meeting the celebrity caller. It’s all great news for the flagging industry and hopefully will be another step to putting land bingo back on the pedestal of the nation’s hearts where it belongs.
