Capitol Bingo Background And History
We don’t know a great deal about the Capitol, but we do know that it started life as a cinema in 1926, and had a fair seating capacity of 1,390. The cinema opened as an independent, but was taken over a mere four years later by ABC cinemas, as part of their program of UK cinematic domination at the time.
The cinema originally had three galleons above the stage, but this was apparently removed when the cinema underwent a bit of an overhaul in the fifties. The cinema closed in 1974, as did many, and reopened as a bingo hall four years later. We are not sure how or why it was closed, but if you have any ideas please let us know.
Date Of Club Closure: Circa 2000
