Premier Bingo Background And History

We don’t currently have any information on the closure of this club, but if you do and would like to share it with us, please contact us here.

We do have a bit of background information on the club before it was a bingo hall. The venue originally opened as the Premier cinema in 1921. A typical suburban cinema, there was a limited seating capacity of 897, and the interior decor was not on the grand scale of some central London cinemas. The first film shown was “Wolves of the Night” starring William Farnum.

Originally an independent cinema, it was taken over by Davies Cinemas in 1938, but, up until its demise in 1961 it remained out of the reach of ABC cinemas and the other national interests. After its close it was converted for bingo use, although this conversion had a minimal effect on the building’s structure and decor. Unfortunately, despite the relatively good condition of the building it has been demolished.

Date Of Club Closure: 1985
