Mecca Bingo Background And History
Switch Island Mecca Bingo closed in 2006, a very bad year for many bingo halls across the country, with regular and permanent closures due to the smoking ban and other economic factors.
Unlike many other bingo clubs, this one was not located in an old cinema or theatre, so at least an historic building was not lost, but obviously this must have been a sad loss for the local community, especially those who enjoy bingo not just for thrill, but as a social vent. The building has been subject to planning applications, and it appears that it will be converted into a furniture store, so it is unlikely that entertainment and a social meeting point will be returning to the building in the future.
Date Of Club Closure: 2006
