One of the sites we regularly visit to check for news on all things bingo is the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the people responsible for regulating advertising across all media platforms. The reason we check often is that we do find some adverts, both offline and online, for bingo brands come under scrutiny from the ASA but the most recently had the staff at HQ facepalming! The cheesy, even cringeworthy advert from Winner Bingo has come under fire from not one but TWO complainants who each believe it to link gambling with sexual success and seductiveness. Are they not watching the same commercial as we are?

Complaint And Ruling On Winner Bingo Advert

The two complainants challenged whether the advert linked gambling to seduction and sexual success which led to the ASA investigating the complaints under the BCAP Code 17.3.7 under Rules for all advertisements and says that Advertisements must not link gambling to seduction, sexual success or enhanced attractiveness.

As we would expect, the assessment of the complaint about led to a ‘Not Upheld’ ruling and the ASA attribute this to the comedic and surreal nature of the commercial. Something the two complainants clearly missed. But who would take the time to make such a complaint? We’re thinking industry competitors rather than two rather sad people with no life!
